Volunteers needed Today and Saturday in Proctor

Saturday, September 17 8:30-12:00
Burt McCullough’s Farm
West Proctor Road, Proctor
Burt needs help removing debris from 12 acres of alfalfa. Needs 50-100 people to walk 3-4 feet apart through field. We will locate and remove football sized chunks of driftwood and debris.
Field is dry, level ground with hay about a foot high. Boots, long pants and work gloves are recommended. Bring a wheelbarrow if you have one.
Meet at the barn on West Proctor Road at 8:30 for instructions. Parking available near the field.
For more information call: Andrea Varney at 459-3546 ,
We could also use volunteers at
4 Willow Street, Proctor
Friday 9/16 from 9-1
to help move soaked belongings to the curb. Please call 802-459-2166 to find out if they still need help.
A message from Andrea Varney, who has been coordinating volunteer efforts in Proctor:
Most folks don't seem to be aware that Proctor had any flood damage. While not as severely hit as other communities, Proctor does have folks who need help. I would just like to bring this to your attention.
All the homes on Willow Street and the end of Meadow Street were flooded up to the ceiling in the basement. Several have hazardous materials problems from overturned fuel tanks. We still have several people who are not able to return to their homes. Several older people are living with relatives temporarily, one family of six is communing from Ludlow for a few weeks. Folks on Elm Street lost belonging stored in their basements due to flooding as well.
